Tourist / Visitor Visa (TRV)

The most common Canada visa for Indians. Allows temporary stay for tourism, family visits, or business meetings.

✈️

Canada Tourist / Visitor Visa

Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) — Mandatory for all Indian passport holders

A Canada Tourist Visa (TRV) allows Indian citizens to visit Canada for tourism, family visits, or short business trips. It is issued as single or multiple entry and is valid for up to 10 years. Indian nationals are NOT on Canada's visa-exempt list, so a TRV is mandatory. In 2024, Canada approved over 5 million TRVs and eTAs globally.

⚠️ 2025 Update: Canada's approval rate for Indian tourist visa applicants has dropped to approximately 20% under the Temporary Resident Integrity Strategy. Strong documentation and ties to India are critical. Joy Visas significantly improves your chances.

Citizens of countries like USA do not need an eTA or TRV.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about all Canada visa types.

What are the main types of Canada visas for Indians?+
Canada offers several visa categories: Tourist/Visitor Visa (TRV), Super Visa, Work Permits (LMIA, Open, PGWP, ICT, SOWP, BOWP), Study Permit, Permanent Residence (Express Entry - FSWP/CEC/FSTP), Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), Family Sponsorship (spouse, parents, children), and Business/Investor programs. Each has different requirements, fees, and processing times.
Which is the fastest pathway to Canada PR from India?+
Express Entry (Federal Skilled Worker Program or Canadian Experience Class) is the fastest PR pathway — approximately 6 months after receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Provincial Nomination (PNP) through Express Entry also gives 600 bonus CRS points, leading to near-certain invitation. Non-Express Entry PNPs take 12-19 months.
Can I work in Canada on a Tourist / Visitor Visa?+
No. A Tourist or Visitor Visa (TRV) does not permit any form of employment in Canada. Working on a visitor visa is an immigration violation and can result in deportation, ban, and rejection of future applications. You need a Work Permit to legally work in Canada.
What is the difference between Open and Closed Work Permit?+
A Closed Work Permit ties you to a specific employer and job. An Open Work Permit allows you to work for any Canadian employer (except restricted ones). Open permits are given to spouses of skilled workers/students (SOWP), PGWP graduates, bridging permit holders (BOWP), and certain other categories. LMIA-based permits are generally closed/employer-specific.
What is LMIA and when is it required?+
LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) is a document an employer must obtain from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) proving that no qualified Canadian worker is available for the position. A positive LMIA allows the employer to hire a foreign worker. LMIA is required for most employer-specific work permits but is NOT required for open permits, intra-company transfers, PGWP, or workers under trade agreements.
What is the CRS score required for Express Entry?+
There is no fixed minimum CRS score. Invitation cut-offs change with each draw. General draws typically cut off around 480-530+ while category-based draws (healthcare, STEM, French) have lower cut-offs (300-400+). A Provincial Nomination adds 600 CRS points guaranteeing an invitation. CRS score depends on age, education, language, work experience, and adaptability factors.
Can I bring my family on a Work Permit to Canada?+
Yes. Spouses and common-law partners of eligible workers can get an open Spousal Work Permit (SOWP). Dependent children can study in Canadian schools without a separate study permit. Eligibility depends on the worker's NOC level and permit type. Joy Visas helps with complete family relocation planning.
How much does Canada PR cost for an Indian family?+
For a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 children): Application fees: CAD 950 x 2 + CAD 260 x 2 = CAD 2,420 | RPRF: CAD 575 x 2 = CAD 1,150 | Biometrics: CAD 85 x 2 = CAD 170 | Medical exams: approximately CAD 200-300 per person | IELTS: approximately CAD 300 per attempt | ECA: approximately CAD 200-300. Total estimated cost: CAD 4,500-6,000+ depending on individual circumstances.
What is the PGWP and how long is it valid?+
Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows international graduates from eligible Canadian DLIs to work in Canada for any employer. Duration matches the program length — programs of 8+ months qualify. Maximum PGWP duration is 3 years. PGWP is open (any employer) and is a major pathway to PR through Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Fee: CAD 255.
What is the Canada Super Visa and how does it differ from TRV?+
Super Visa: Parents/grandparents of Canadian citizens/PRs only | Stay up to 5 years per visit | Valid 10 years | Medical insurance CAD 100,000+ mandatory | Requires financial sponsorship letter from child. Regular TRV: Available for all purposes | Stay up to 6 months | Valid up to 10 years | Insurance recommended not mandatory. Super Visa is far more convenient for long-term stays.
How long does Canada spousal sponsorship take?+
Canada spousal/partner sponsorship currently takes approximately 12-18 months from application to final decision. Processing times can vary. Spouses living outside Canada can apply for a SOWP (Spousal Open Work Permit) while the sponsorship is pending, allowing them to work in Canada during the waiting period. Joy Visas assists with complete spousal sponsorship.
Is ECA (Educational Credential Assessment) mandatory for Canada PR?+
Yes, ECA is mandatory for Express Entry applications if your education was completed outside Canada. WES (World Education Services) is the most commonly used organization. ECA confirms your foreign degree equals Canadian standards. It typically takes 20-30 business days after document submission. It is NOT required for Canadian Education credentials.
